The perfect speaker
The perfect speaker
Disclaimer: no one is perfect
What is the point of your destination? Probably not every journey has to be ended, but ideally it has a direction - some desired result. The route can be changed throughout the journey, because we are changing and learning. Isn’t it helpful to visualize this point to see where you are intended to, at least, right now and see what steps, leading there, are available?
People talk about visualizing a lot, I don’t know whether it’s really worth it, that’s why let’s figure it out and visualize the perfect speaker.
First of all, I cannot imagine me today being a perfect speaker.
That is because a good speaker is not just an ability to speak in front of the public, it is more about the personality in general. Ability to speak requires hundreds of other abilities and characteristics. Public speaking is revealing your personality: experience, inborn talents and trained skills, features of character and etc.
That is why I imagine the perfect speaker to be older than I am. S (speaker with the capital S):
- Is old enough to have a life experience and speaking experience.
- Has an image. S produces an effect of solid, intelligent person, and this is actually true.
- Also is dressed elegantly, but the clothes are comfortable to move and gesticulate in them.
- S is confident, not afraid of making mistakes or being funny, but S’s self-esteem is adequate
- Gesticulates beautifully, changes places and postures but not often.
- Has a perfect accent.
- Easily maintains an eye contact.
- Speaks fluently, emotionally sometimes, but distinctly, with pauses, varying the voice and the speed.
- Uses examples from their own life or literature, history, refers to something, uses quotes.
- Is tolerant and open to any opinion, broad-minded and friendly.
- Is quite humorous.
- Is straightforward and honest, without being offensive or rude, generally quite polite.
- Is calm and self-possessed.
- Is enthusiastic and inquisitive.
- Is resourceful and creative.
Probably it’s impossible to own all of the characteristics, but these are the things I would like to have and value in other people. To draw a conclusion, for me being a good speaker is very close to being a good and interesting person.
I would love to know, what is your opinion about that? What points do you agree and disagree with?
I guess that you have all chances to become a perfect public speaker soon. As for your prototype, I absolutely agree with it. Thank you for an interesting post!
